MIP Product FAQs
MIP has specialised in New Zealand bovine colostrum since 2000. Below, you’ll find straightforward answers about MIP Colostrum and Omega-3 Krill.
Understanding MIP Colostrum
MIP Colostrum is the first milk a cow produces after calving. It is naturally rich in proteins, immunoglobulins and other bioactive components that help nourish and protect the newborn calf.
MIP Colostrum is made from surplus New Zealand bovine colostrum collected only after the calf has received what it needs.
Colostrum is produced immediately after calving and contains much higher levels of immunoglobulins, protein and other naturally occurring components than ordinary milk. It is also naturally lower in lactose.
These levels decline as the cow transitions to producing regular milk, which is why early collection matters.
People choose MIP Colostrum as a simple way to include the naturally occurring immunoglobulins, proteins and other bioactive components found in bovine colostrum in their everyday routine.
MIP provides this in powder, vege-cap, chewable and blended formats, supported by New Zealand sourcing, verified IgG content and colostrum experience since 2000.
How to take MIP Colostrum and who it is suitable for
- Powder: Choose the 80g jar for a convenient starting size or the more economical 500g bag for regular use. Both can be measured and mixed into cool drinks or food.
- Vege-Caps: A convenient, pre-measured format containing 500mg of MIP Colostrum per capsule.
- Colostrum Chews: An easy chewable format with a strawberry and light vanilla taste. Each chew provides 550mg of MIP Colostrum.
- Vitality Blend: Combines MIP Colostrum with Gold Kiwifruit, Mānuka honey powder, probiotics, vitamins and minerals in one daily blend.
Check the individual product label when comparing serving amounts and directions.
The recommended adult daily serving depends on the format:
- Powder: 2g
- Vege-Caps: Two capsules twice daily, providing 2g in total
- Colostrum Chews: Three chews, providing 1.65g
- Vitality Blend: 5g, providing 2g of MIP Colostrum
Some people choose additional servings of pure colostrum during illness, recovery or demanding training. Follow the individual product label.
Do not increase the recommended Vitality Blend serving because it also contains vitamins and minerals. If combining formats, remember that each product contributes to your total colostrum intake.
MIP Colostrum contains naturally occurring milk proteins and lactose. It is not suitable for anyone with a diagnosed cow’s-milk protein allergy.
Some people with lactose intolerance may tolerate colostrum because it contains less lactose than ordinary milk, but it is not lactose-free. Individual tolerance varies.
One 500mg Vege-Cap contains approximately 17mg of naturally occurring lactose.
Some MIP Colostrum products include serving directions for children aged 5 and over. Follow the directions on the individual Powder, Vege-Caps, Chews or Vitality Blend label.
MIP Colostrum is not infant formula and must not replace breast milk, infant formula or a balanced diet. Seek professional advice for children with a milk allergy, medical condition or who take medication.
Because Vitality Blend also contains vitamins and minerals, check for overlapping nutrients if the child takes another supplement.
Speak with a qualified healthcare professional before taking MIP Colostrum if you use prescription medicines, are receiving medical treatment, have a significant health condition or have been advised to restrict dairy proteins.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your midwife, doctor or pharmacist before starting any new supplement.
MIP Colostrum Powder can also be used as a nutritional supplement for animals such as dogs and cats. Mix it with the animal’s normal food or a small amount of water.
The right amount depends on the animal’s species, size and health. Start with a small amount and ask your vet for advice if your pet has a medical condition, dairy sensitivity or takes medication. Colostrum should complement veterinary care, not replace it.
MIP Omega-3 Krill
Krill oil naturally has a distinctive marine aroma, which can be noticeable when the bottle is opened. This is normal and does not mean there is anything wrong with the softgels.
Although the oil has a strong aroma, the softgels do not usually leave the fishy aftertaste or cause the fishy burps commonly associated with some fish oils when swallowed whole and taken with food.
Taking the softgels with a meal makes them easier to include consistently in your daily routine. Follow the label direction to take three softgels daily with food.
IgG, quality and product differences
IgG is the principal immunoglobulin naturally found in bovine colostrum. MIP Colostrum contains 20–25% IgG, verified by batch testing.
The percentage indicates the concentration of IgG in the powder, but serving size also matters. A standard 2g serving of MIP Colostrum Powder provides approximately 400–500mg of naturally occurring IgG.
IgG is an important quality measure, but it represents only one part of colostrum’s naturally complex composition.
Not necessarily. A higher IgG percentage may result from different concentration or processing methods, or from the inclusion of separately sourced bovine immunoglobulins. It does not automatically mean the product is better-quality colostrum.
When comparing products, consider:
- Whether it is complete colostrum or an immunoglobulin-enriched formulation
- The source of the IgG
- The amount of IgG provided per serving
- Which milkings are collected
- How the colostrum is processed and tested
- Whether other ingredients have been added
MIP provides complete New Zealand colostrum collected from the first two milkings, with 20–25% naturally occurring IgG verified by batch testing. It is selected for its complete colostrum composition—not simply to achieve the largest headline percentage.
Quality is controlled throughout collection, processing and final manufacture. The colostrum is transported chilled, processed promptly under audited food-safety systems and tested against MIP’s food-safety and IgG specifications.
Finished MIP products are manufactured in GMP-certified New Zealand facilities. Batch numbering provides traceability through the production process.
MIP Colostrum is a natural dairy product, so small differences in colour, flavour, texture or how easily it mixes can occur from batch to batch.
This is normal and does not mean the product is faulty. Every batch is tested to meet MIP’s quality and IgG specifications.
MIP Colostrum Powder is based on New Zealand bovine colostrum powder, without added milk powder. Some naturally occurring fat is removed during processing to improve stability while retaining the colostrum’s characteristic proteins and immunoglobulins.
New Zealand sourcing and processing
New Zealand’s pasture-based dairy industry, temperate climate and established dairy systems make it well suited to producing high-quality colostrum.
For MIP, the New Zealand advantage means healthy pasture-raised herds, calf-first collection, chilled transport and prompt processing — not simply a country of origin.
‘Calf first’ means the newborn calf always has priority and receives the colostrum it needs before any surplus is collected.
Only the remaining surplus is collected. This responsible approach is a core part of our sourcing.
Colostrum is most concentrated immediately after calving. With each milking, it gradually changes towards ordinary milk and levels of IgG and other characteristic components decline.
MIP uses only surplus colostrum from the first and second milkings, after the calf’s needs have been met.
The liquid colostrum is collected, chilled and transported for processing without first being frozen. It is processed within 48 hours of collection.
This avoids an unnecessary freeze-and-thaw stage and helps keep handling to a minimum.
Fresh colostrum is flash pasteurised at 72°C for 15 seconds for food safety, then carefully dried into a stable powder.
Finished batches are tested to confirm that IgG remains present, with the pure colostrum powder typically containing 20–25% IgG.
